About the Workshop
The EDD Candidate Workshop is a two-day opportunity designed to support EDD doctoral candidates who have completed their doctoral comprehensive/candidacy exam. The workshop will be held on June 5 and 6, 2008, and is available to the first fifty (50) candidates who register. The fee for the workshop is $50 payable upon registration.
The workshop is designed to refresh your skills, provide support for your dissertation work, and perhaps if needed, provide a boost to get you back on track. Candidates should bring with them the last draft of their doctoral work whether that is the dissertation pre-prospectus, prospectus, or chapters written. It will be helpful for candidates to be able to refer to their previous work in some of the planned workshop sessions.
From one of last year's attendees....
I credit Dr. Chance and last summers' ABD (all but dissertation) workshop
for giving me hope that I thought was lost and getting me started working
again. It had literally been years since I'd worked on my dissertation
when she invited me to the ABD workshop. For the entirety of those years,
I carried around the burden of a task unfinished. The mere thought of working
on my dissertation again was overwhelming! Truly, I was not ready to give
up, but I did not know how to begin again. Less than a year later, I'm
done!
...the workshop provided some much needed review of the dissertation process. In addition, I saw that there were others in my situation. Misery loves company; and as I worked through the process, several of those who attended the workshop with me have helped in keeping me motivated and accountable. I believe by staying in touch, we've helped each other.
... My advice to any student who is ABD would be to make arrangements
to attend this workshop. I credit my completion to the presentations, encouragement,
and camaraderie from these two days. Never would you find a professional
conference that would benefit you as much as an individual and an educator!
