Culinary Institute
Dear
Directors and Managers,
Now in its 6th year, Culinary Institute II (TID 14b) remains a wonderful
opportunity for training and learning for Classified School Nutrition Managers.
In these times of reduced training budgets and fewer on-site and hands-on
training, this course is still the best chance to receive both in Georgia.
To help with budget concerns, we have decreased the
cost for the entire week to $150 (down from $300) per manager. This low price
includes lodging and most meals. Take a moment to consider this opportunity and register if you
are (or have) a manager who has completed all CORE TID courses and attended
Culinary Institute I (TID 14a).
Read what your colleagues have to say about Culinary Institute II.
“The Culinary II class at Georgia Southern was very beneficial to
Emanuel County SNP managers, Beth Harrison and Kathy Wiggins. Both managers
gained confidence in their leadership abilities and are more self-assured
in meeting challenges and implementing new ideas. For example, we have instituted
a very successful ‘Breakfast in the Classrooms’ program this
year at Swainsboro Middle School. It not only has resulted in higher student
participation, but the teachers have noticed a reduction in disciplinary
problems."
Linda Sconyers, Director,
Emanuel County Schools
“I’ve learned that I’m very important to my school
and nutrition program. When school started in August, I knew that I could
do a better job training my employees, because Larry, Frieda, and Chef
Steven taught me new cooking skills, better training techniques. This information
has helped me develop a healthier school environment. I loved it all. The
week went by too fast. The only thing I would suggest to improve is to
have a Culinary Institute III.”
Manager, Summer 2007
“I liked the hands-on training in the kitchen from Chef Stephen,
and learning how to train and teach my staff when I get home. Frieda and
Becca led discussions on our wellness policies and special diets for my
students. I
will go back and become more of an advocate for my students’ needs.”
Manager,
Summer 2008
The faculty of Culinary Institute II at Georgia Southern, tell me that the
summertime with school nutrition managers is their favorite time of the year.
They do understand that it’s not always easy to leave family and friends
behind for a week and come to Statesboro. The faculty strongly believes that
what managers do every day during the school year is important in the students’ school
day. They work closely with the Georgia Department of Education, School Nutrition
Program staff to produce the most relevant training in a comfortable and
activity-packed week.
Registration is limited, so don’t delay in joining this elite group of
managers who have completed both Culinary Institute I and II. My hope is you
will consider this an opportunity to apply new techniques and information with
peers and staff. Do this by sharing during an in-service or manager meeting.
I wish you a great end of the year and a wonderful summer!
