Frequently Asked Question

Q: Why should I take all three courses?

We highly encourage everyone to take all three classes - regardless of experience - because each course prepares a student for the other courses.

Q: If I don't have previous experience with Fiber Optics but study hard, how well am I likely to do on the certification exam?

We have a 95% pass rate in all of our Fiber Optics classes, presented in partnership with BDI DataLynk (FOA Approved School # 208). Review for each test is extensive - the best in the industry.

For best results, you should be able to understand written and spoken English, to hold and recognize small tools, and to take notes and study. Attendance and participation are vital to your success in each course.

Q: What if I want to skip the CFOT (Technician) course and go straight to the CFOS/T or CFOS/S course?

Anyone can take any course at any time, although we recommend you read the prerequisites for the CFOS/T and CFOS/S course before registering.

Please note that a person cannot be certified as a Specialist by the FOA in either Specialist course unless the student has taken AND PASSED the CFOT Exam. That exam is included at the conclusion of the CFOT course.

Q: What is the fee for the certification exam?

If you register for any of these three classes, the certification exam is included in the price, and the exam is given at the end of the course.

If you prefer to test-out of the CFOT test in order to take a Specialist course, the price is $145 pass or fail. The exam is 100 questions, and you must answer 70 or more correctly in order to pass the exam.
