Directors Message
-
Welcome to the Continuing Education Center,
I am a firm believer that Continuing Education is a lifelong learning process that directly impacts workforce development in everyone’s community. Individuals should be prepared to be innovative in today’s work environment, complete actions with little direction and to be creative and resilient. The demands in the workplace are changing at an incredible pace and coupled with ongoing technology, change in workforce development is paramount. To answer this demand, customized workforce development training is offered through Georgia Southern University’s Continuing Education and Public Service.
Moreover, a growing demand for workforce development training is becoming increasingly important to workers seeking a rapid transfer into the workforce and workers seeking skill maintenance or upgrading. The workforce skills that are required in today’s economic environment are extremely different than they were fifteen years ago. Additionally, technology is rapidly changing on a daily basis and being able to keep skilled workers will continue to grow. In the face of change, the employee and employer must understand the value of life-long learning as it relates to workforce development.
Therefore, there is a need for re-training workers, honing skills and keeping employees current with the rapidly changing economic environment. The workforce needs and demands more training to keep up with technology. The twenty-first century worker needs to develop interpersonal communication, basic employability skills, self-management, time management, computer technology, and decision-making skills to have an increased knowledge based education. Workforce education is directly related to the needs of current and future business and industry employers. Lifelong learning is viewed as an integral part of the twenty first century worker and, continuous lifelong learning is essential for sustained employment and career advancement. Our programs are developed with you, your organization and that process in mind….
Sincerely,
Dr. Tony Bretti
