Bring Social Studies to Life!
Project BESST teachers attend a week-long workshop at Georgia Southern University practicing "hands-on, minds-on" pedagogy and updating their content and evaluation expertise in social studies. Graduates of this course have access to our growing collection of social studies kits, delivered to the classroom, with all consumable materials included.
What we do:
In 2005, Project BESST joined the successful Project SENSE to deliver a hands-on, correlated social studies curriculum in the form of teacher workshops and classroom kits to the region's PK-8th grade social studies teachers. Summer workshops focus on improving teacher content knowledge in the social sciences. Kits contain interactive teaching materials such as reproduction artifacts, costumes and maps, and particularly items that are expensive, cumbersome or difficult to acquire. The initiative is funded by the Federal Teacher Quality Grants program, Georgia Southern University, and a generous start-up gift from the Greene-Sawtell Foundation.
