Journey back in time to explore the lives of innovative, historical characters like Mary Musgrove, a Creek Indian interpreter, diplomat, and businesswoman, and Sequoyah, a Cherokee Indian who developed a writing system for the Cherokee nation. Also, experience the innovations developed during the Civil War. Our interactive programs help teach these stories to the following age groups:
Journey into the Past: Mary Musgrove (2nd -- 4th Grade)
Students will learn about the life of Mary Musgrove and the importance of her established trading post. Students will learn about the process of bartering through a hands-on trading game.
Journey into the Past: Sequoyah (2nd -- 4th Grade)
Students will learn about the life of Sequoyah and the importance of his syllabary to the Cherokee people. Students will learn about how the syllabary works through a hands-on memory game using Cherokee words for important objects in Sequoyah’s life.
Journey into the Past: The Evolving Civil War (4th -- 8th Grade)
The American Civil War is considered the first modern war because of the innovations that occurred during this time. Students will experience how those innovations and other advantages helped end the Civil War.
